JUNE 4, 2006

I went to Tinton and back in a roundabout way, going about 110 miles total. It was in the 70s and often looked like it might rain, but it didn't. I think I'm getting 80mpg!

I went to Cheyenne Crossing from the south, and passed this house, which I love...

Then I went past Roughlock Falls toward Tinton. Tinton is being mined again for some strange mineral called Tantalum or something, plus tin, feldspar, and some other stuff. Chester knows the guys doing this. There's No Trespassing signs everywhere now, so I just took one picture of the crumbling down buildings and left. Not much to see there anymore apparently.

There were nice flowers on the way out. Dandelions are blooming absolutely everywhere. There were deer here, and other places. Few robins this year.

I saw a blue heron flying around as I went by a small succession of dams but couldn't get a good photo.

I came up a road numbered 209, and there were a succession of trees that had fallen over the road. Somebody had cut enough of some of the trees so you could drive through, and others just drove around some of them. In one particular spot it looked to me like a tornado had been through, so I took a lot of photos. It's at 44, 11.837 and 103, 53.594 by my GPS, which is southwest of Brownsville. The trees seemed quite newly knocked over, even giving off pollen when I stepped on them. I've always wanted to see a tornado, so at least I think I've been to where one was.

Almost all the trees were uprooted instead of being broken

and HERE is a panoramic photo of the area.
