JEFF'S EXCELLENT GALENA ADVENTURE, JUNE 28, 2006

Tonight I watched for satellites. In 45 minutes I saw 5; 2 going north, 2 going south, and one going east. One shooting star. Lots of lightning bugs, which makes it hard to look for shooting stars. When Juha and I watched for satellites, I realized that my eyesight was not as good as it used to be. He could see some that I couldn't see.

After working on the outhouse in the morning (finished painting and landscaping) I rode the bike to Dalton Lake, then went to road 144 to the south. There was a huge old barn and a log cabin back there. 144 is called Piedmont Road. It's sometimes hard to find a road because the forest service map shows a road number, while the road usually just has a named sign. The barn is at 44,12.224, 103,28.222. Also on 144 were huge piles of cut down trees after thinning. There's a lot of thinning going on. 144 winds up at Nemo, so I suspect that some side roads off it might go up to the cliffs above Nemo.

I then went on road 208 (Merrit Estates Rd) It had cool cliffs where the sedimentary rocks were turned 90 degrees. I walked to the cliffs but there were a lot of mosquitos, plus there was poison ivy around the cliffs (I already have a little of that) so I just left.

I then went to road 202 (Bogus Jim Road), which I liked a lot. It had a lot of big houses. I wound up at Johnson Siding, so I decided just to go to Rapid City for supper. I came back on Nemo Road and went up to some fancy home divisions like Westberry Hills just out of Rapid. One huge one was for sale for $318,000, which is what they were trying to sell my old house for in Scottsdale.

No deer today! But I saw a few turkeys.
