JEFF'S EXCELLENT GALENA ADVENTURE, 6/18/06

First we went to the Golden Crest mine and saw some birds. An older couple came up on their ATVs and chatted for a while. He lost his cabin in the fire nearby. He was told that the Golden Crest was sort of a scam in that it never really got any gold nor did anyone really try very hard to find gold there.

Then we went up and talked to Jeraldine and John. Juha watched birds at their bird feeders.

Next we went to Dalton Lake, where the Little Elk Creek starts. There are supposed to be dipper birds there, but we didn't see any. There was a fun place with sedimentary rock with weird stuff on it, so I'll probably go back there. The trail along the creek goes clear to Piedmont too, though we didn't go that far.

This is a very young turkey that flew into this tree when we were walking along. It then flew quite a ways upstream. The mom was nearby.

There were a lot of wild grape vines back here too.

Just some nice scenery along the creek.

We then went to Whitewood Creek behind the town of Whitewood. Again, no dipper bird. Then we hunted down some buffalo steaks at Cody's in Deadwood. And again we got home too late to shower.
