JEFF'S EXCELLENT GALENA ADVENTURE, JUNE 16, 2006
We did the tour of the Lead Mine starting from the open cut. It went into the shaft building, which I've always wanted to see!
This is the spool of 5000 feet of 1 7/8 inch cable that dropped up to 64 men
at once into the shaft. There's another room at 5000 feet below with a 3000
foot cable that drops to the bottom of the tunnel system. My batteries died
right after I took this.
We went to Roughlock Falls, looking for birds, of course.
Juha looking for a dipper bird, a rare bird that's in the Black Hills.
We went upstream from Roughlock and saw a mother groundhog with 2 kids in a campground
On the way back, there was a deer carcass with vultures eating on it. We stopped to take photos and just waited until one came back.
