JEFF'S EXCELLENT GALENA ADVENTURE, JULY 7, 2006

This morning I went into Deadwood and did laundry. Big whoop.

This afternoon I helped Geraldine and John put up photos of Galena buildings in the lots where they were. When I got home Juha had called, but I figured it was too late to call him back (even if I could from here, which I'm not sure my card would let me do).

Then I went to Brownsville, and on the way back I decided to check out the road that I thought connected to the neighbor's private road on the hill. It turns out that it goes down to a mine above Chester's and stops there. The cool thing is that if you follow along the hill, you see that someone was following a certain layer of rock right around the hill. About every 100 feet or so there is either a tunnel or at least a hole dug into the very same rock layer. I'm not sure what they thought was in that layer, but somebody was definitely interested in it.

Then I decided the quickest way home was north down a road that I refused to go on before because it was so steep and rocky. But this time I was sure I had seen it from the other side, near Koppos, and the hill wasn't that long. So sure enough, the road connects to the side road that goes right after you cross the creek going toward Sturgis, so I got home much quicker that way. Also, it showed that it's possible to drive completely around the hill across from the cabins, in a roundabout way.

The weather has been a little hotter, and the yard and fields are just starting to turn brown in places. But it's really warm at night now, so I'll probably go out later and look for satellites.
